ROOSEVELT ELK
One August, Lidia looked out the windows of
her home and realized that she was surrounded by Roosevelt Elk -
again. They were enjoying her flowers (REALLY ENJOYING her
flowers!). Lidia refers to this process as
"nuking". An entire herd of Elk were in her flower
beds, on her lawn and on her porch, just "nuking" away.
Before she went outside to have a few words with
them she called this photographer who hurried over. When I got
there the Elk were nearby, but no longer in the gardens and on the
lawns and porches. Wary, they did not want me close. On
the other hand, the flowers were SO GOOD!
I photographed them carefully as they retreated to
the Grand Meadow and beyond. In all there were about 21
Elk. It is important on Winter Springs Ranch to not harass the
wildlife. We value their presence and want them around, just
not in the flower beds. Sorry that the images are
blurry. It was a wonderfully overcast morning and the light
was low. |
